Sacred Harp 1

I had a surreal morning at the Sacred Harp All-California Singing Convention.   Audio above of one of the more tame songs; I had no idea what I was doing, but sang myself hoarse.

Not familiar with Sacred Harp / Shape-Note singing?  You should seriously check it out.  Here’s wikipedia, and here’s a great documentary with some better recordings of the more impressive/apocalyptic songs.

It is weird, weird music, with fascinating lyrics.  Very nice old folks showed us how it went, and we even got chances to lead a few songs.
