The Oriental Institute
Today in Chicago I convinced Felix, Brad and Elliot to come with me to the Oriental Institute at the University of Chicago. I’d never been, but I new they had a nice collection of ancient near-east stuff.
It was awesome. The most fun I’ve had at a museum with kids, plus we got to see a bunch of cool stuff from thousands of years ago. I’m totally fascinated with these artifacts, and Felix seemed to catch a little bit of that Egypt Kids bug that they get.
One highlight - and there were many, really, was seeing practice cuneiform tablets. The museum has a collection of tablets used in scribe schools, where students would practice inscribing set phrases or patterns. They look so much like my tablets that I make! This blew my mind.
