Halloween 2019
Another Halloween, another excuse to make dumb costumes. Erika and I really love making these, and this year we put the mask-making skills from our art center class with Johanna Winters to build a couple of giant heads.
Tontu
This year Trudy is ‘Monty Tontu’, a Nisse from the Hilda graphic novels.
Nisses are house-spirits in the Hilda universe, and they are apparently ALL named Tontu. This one in particular appears for only one page - making him pretty obscure even for a Trudy costume. The giant fur-covered head is really impressive in person. It’s also super warm inside!
Lurch
Felix is of course Lurch, from the Addams Family.
He looks so great! And I won’t lie, I am pretty proud of that Thing box we made. Felix really sells it, too.
It just squeaks by the school requirement of A Character from History or Literature, because the Addams Family was first a comic series in The New Yorker, before it was a hit tv show.
Leo
And for no good reason at all - I just wanted to make a big mask - I am dressed as my boy Leo Tolstoy.
